GR and Communications for a Sustainable Future: Uniting Government, Experts, and Communities Around Just Transition

GIZ

down

At the project's launch in 2023, we developed national and regional communication strategies for GIZ’s Just Transition project. These strategies targeted a broad pool of audiences: from national and local authorities and industry experts to local communities in the Lviv region’s coal micro-region. The goal was to maximize stakeholder awareness regarding the advantages of alternative energy over traditional sources and highlight the project’s ongoing milestones.
In 2024-2025, we moved forward with the implementation of these strategies.

Tasks, Challenges, and ToolsFor the national level:
● Showed junior specialists of the Ministry of Energy how to communicate a socially complex topic under conditions of limited information that can be disclosed to the public — conducted media training and addressed this particularly challenging communication task;● Communicated the topic of alternative energy — engaged external experts from NGOs, such as Ecoaction and RAZOM WE STAND, to prepare expert materials.
For the regional level:
● Trained local speakers at the local level to communicate with the population — conducted media trainings for representatives of the Lviv Regional State Administration and the Sheptytskyi City Council, analyzed all key messages that speakers should master regarding their topic, and taught them in practice with a local journalist how to answer tricky questions;● Reached the "school-age children" target audience with communications about alternative energy — organized a competition among students of local schools in the Sheptytskyi community titled "What we can do for the sustainable future of our community";● Communicated with local residents through channels accessible to them — prepared a series of podcasts together with the local YouTube channel Buzhnet, and prepared expert articles and press releases for local media and Facebook groups.
